They decided the loser of the card game would move on. By all accounts, Clark stated, “If you can show low, you win.” C.E. Cooley turned up the deuce of clubs and replied, “Show low it is.” Because the city got its name by the turn of a card, the town’s main street was named "Deuce of Clubs."
