Branford, Connecticut, is a town located on the southern shore of the state in New Haven County, with roughly 28,000 residents. The area of Branford was originally a Dutch trading post around the mouth of the Branford River where the Dutch traded with local Indian tribes. However, many people believe the name Branford was adapted from the town of Brentford in England. Officially established in 1644, the town grew slowly, and by the 1800s, a small shoreline settlement existed in what is now the Stony Creek area.
