The Methuen Memorial Music Hall, designed by Henry Vaughan, architect of the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., was built in 1909. It contains a landmark organ designed by the E.F. Walcker Company of Ludwigsburg, Germany, believed to be the largest organ in the United States at the time of its import. The Music Hall was expressly designed to house the instrument, and its soundproof walls, up to 3 feet thick in some places, are in the cross shape of a church. The 65-foot high vaulted ceiling gives tremendous reverberation to the space. The Hall currently features concerts in the spring and summer and can be rented for private use.
